Restorative Dentistry

A spectacular smile begins with healthy teeth. Decayed, broken, and missing teeth compromise your oral health and can damage self-esteem. With comprehensive restorative dentistry we look at the big picture. Instead of just repairing individual teeth we can transform even the most difficult cases into beautiful works of art keeping in mind the functional aspects of your teeth.

Crowns and Bridges
If you have a fractured or a grossly destructed tooth, cracked fillings, or a large area of decay, a crown, also called a cap, is suggested. Crowns reinforce tooth structure and can save a severely damaged tooth from extraction. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. A crown may be recommended to replace a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining, to cover a dental implant or to attach a bridge. Porcelain crowns can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth and they improve the overall function of your teeth. Other materials include zirconium and precious metal alloys. These alloys are generally stronger than porcelain and may be recommended for the back teeth.

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth and they span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges.

Zirconium crowns are the most recommended types of the crowns in the recent times. Individuals who want good aesthetic results prefer choosing zirconia crowns. They are known to give an absolutely natural look to the crowns making it difficult to differentiate the crowns from the natural teeth. They are bio-compitable, have appreciable strength and a considerably long life.

A fixed bridge is non-removable and a better alternative to a removable denture for replacement of one or more missing teeth. Adjacent teeth are used as a support for the missing teeth that are being replaced with the help of crowns.

Tooth Coloured Fillings
A tooth-coloured filling is made of composite resin which is directly bonded to your tooth. A seamless and natural restoration can be achieved for the correction of broken or chipped teeth and even spaces between teeth in a single sitting with this material. It is often superior to less cosmetic materials like silver and gold because it bonds to enamel and requires less removal of natural tooth structure. It can be used on the front or back teeth. At Dental Creations, we no longer use dental amalgam as a tooth filling material because of the health risks associated with mercury toxicity.

Dentures
These are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth consisting of a solid row of false teeth anchored to a gum-coloured base. Dentures can be customized to give your smile a natural look and feel. If you only need some of your teeth replaced, a partial set of dentures can be fitted. Once your mouth adjusts to the prosthetic teeth, you will be reintroduced to the simple pleasures of daily life such us chewing, speaking, and smiling with confidence.
